We may stock a lot of stories with heroes at Books with Pictures, but it's not every day that we get to be part of one. Today, on Free Comic Book Day no less, YOU are our heroes. Each and every one of you who supported us -- from your kind words to your pledges, from the retweets to the rewards that arrived just in time to push us over the edge -- have made this campaign's success possible. We are OVER THE MOON and it's not even over yet!
That's right: It's stretch goals time! Watch this space as we roll out new tier rewards while we countdown till Tuesday, starting tonight with a new art print from Ron Randall and a new tote from Kelly Sue DeConnick! You got us to 100% so we're bringing 150% more awesome out, just for you!

Hey friends! We've got some exciting updates to share from the space. Today, let's talk about our new reception desk and display area.
Getting to expand our check-out counter space is an exciting part of this project-- we'll be adding a second terminal, so two clerks can work simultaneously, relieving some of our congestion during big events. (It also means that one person can do shop tasks like ordering and subscription management while another works the register. Improved process flow! Super exciting!
Design on this piece was really fun. We needed to include space to do all the work we do and things we store at the register-- printers, cash drawer, our file cabinet for pulls, shelves for books on reserve, space to receive and sort shipments, and so on. And then also decided to integrate space for displaying new releases right up front.
The new store's floorplan is triangular, and so we wanted to integrate that shape into this new central fixture. Also, the new floors are wood, which dramatically changes the overall color feel of the shop: having wood instead of concrete makes the color tones much warmer, and we wanted to work that change into this big piece as well. So. With all that prologue: Look! Designs!
Foley is a Portland based artist and builder of things. She's super invested in solving problems and crafting solutions for folks. Her background includes theatrical set design, scenic painting, lifestyle photography set design/build, digital drafting, and years of experience crafting custom works of art for clients, all of which help bring a high level of detail to her projects.

Just because we're working on this Kickstarter doesn't mean comic shop fun has stopped! Join us THIS SATURDAY for the annual celebration of comics, families, costumes, and great stories. We'll have free comics for all comers (sorted by age level, five per customer, please!) as well as some special guests.
In the morning, the Rebel Legion cosplay group will bring Jedi into our midst. Watch for lightsabers and mind tricks. And in the afternoon, the brand new PDX Avengers will bring us costumed superheroes: no spoilers, everyone lives. You come in costume too, ok? Photo ops come with suggested donations to our friends at the Q Center.
On the art side, our morning guest will be local cartoonist Pharoah Bolding, and in the afternoon we'll have Eryk Donovan (Quantum Teens are Go, Cognetic, Constantine). Both will be doing free sketches for kids, and may ask adults to pay money.
